Twilight

I just completed the first novel of the Twilight series days back. It took me time to gain speed as I was reading only a few pages a day for weeks. Progress was better after I pass the half way mark and I read at a rate of 1 to many chapters per day.

Twilight

Surprisingly, it’s my younger bro who bought this novel

Edward Cullen is actually a rather weird character, a weird vampire. With mind reading as his specialty, though he couldn’t read Bella’s mind, I figure that there are better ways of asking for her opinions. Instead Edward asks questions in the most direct and un-natural way possible. Worse, I find the whole watch someone to sleep by creeping up to her bed room at night to be bizarre. Perhaps it’s just me but I did not fall for the “manly behavior” of Edward. Strangely I prefer Jasper and Alice more than Edward and Bella. I think Stephenie Meyer should star Alice and Jasper as her leads in some Twilight spin-offs, maybe in some action-adventure plot.

Having caught the movie before reading the novel, I felt that the movie is worth the penny if you’ve not read the novel. After reading the novel, I still feel that the movie is good and the make-up of characters is still horrible. The special abilities of Alice and Jasper are also left out but then again, Twilight emphasizes on the love-love relationship between Edward and Bella, and not Alice and Jasper, so all is forgiven.

Actually some of my friends who are Twilight fans feel that the movie is shit (a summation of their negative opinions) because they’re unhappy with some of the scenes. I feel that if the movie follows the novel scenes, I would be bored to death in the cinema because most of them will involve weird mushy conversations between Edward and Bella. Perhaps the reason I find the 2nd half of the novel more exciting is due to Edward speaking less, and everyone doing more; more action in another words.

Oh and below is the official trailer for New Moon on youtube. Hopefully I’ll get to see New Moon soon in my region. I’m also moving on to New Moon after I’m done with some of Stephen King’s novels.

I’ve heard nothing but terrible things about Twilight, book or movie. The few excerpts I’ve seen support this notion, though naturally the people who selected the excerpts picked the worse possible ones. My general impression is that Meyers can’t write very well and that the novel reads more like a collection of bizarre fantasies rather than a novel. Everything I’ve heard about it makes me want to avoid it, but I don’t really like to judge something so harshly without actually having experienced it, so maybe one of these days…

Oh my god finally someone who prefers Alice and Jasper as well. I really appreciated every scenario with both of them and they are my favorite characters  . I would love it if there would be a spin-off about them  .

I haven’t been inclined to read any of the Twilight novels, mainly because of all the scathing reviews I read that condemned Bella as being helpless, shallow, weak, and so much of a damsel-in-distress that she needs Edward to save her every couple of chapters. Also that she shivers and goes weak in the knees whenever Edward so much as touches her. Ugh. Give me my ass-kicking heroines any day.
