Ten Dollar Club Family K.T.V. Karaoke

There’s actually a karaoke club where I can sing from 2 to 7pm for only S$10. My friends and I booked the number of heads in advance ($10 per head) and sang our hearts out last Wednesday. I heard of the place before but have never been there so I was a little curious as to how it was like. Located in a conspicuous area and covered by the many other road side stalls along Chinatown, I would say that it’s hard to spot but offers the best karaoke deals so far.

The counter is located on the 3rd floor and my friends and I climbed the neat looking furnished flight of stairs to get there. The counter and waiting area are designed to resemble that of a bar and there are a few bar tables and chairs for costumers to sit around while waiting for their friends to arrive. There’s even a billiard table for those who wants a match but with extra charges.

I first thought that the room was small as compared to the other karaoke places but the sofa was so comfortable and the ambiance was so good that I almost fell asleep due to the coziness. Each one of us got a free bowl of fake shark fin soup for booking in advance and there was no extra charges for this!

What’s best is the free flow of drinks though the options of drink choices are limited. I went ahead and helped myself to many cups of hot Chinese tea. :-)

I had at least 5 cups of hot Chinese tea

I feel that the Ten Dollar Club has the best karaoke deal so far, hence, check it out if you’re bored over the summer holidays.

    That looks like a good deal for a karaoke bar.
    I haven’t found any deals that good in my neighborhood. If you are in the same situation as I am, you should try The Karaoke Channel at http://online.thekaraokechannel.com. It’s pretty sweet, you can try it for free, at home, and even get it on tv !

    Daaaaaamn, that is a sweet deal, especially with the free soup and unlimited drinks! I would almost kill to be able to check that out. I haven’t been to a good karaoke place in a good while now, and most places I’ve been to in the past were pretty rundown anyway — all the rooms were pretty dirty. The song selections were great, but the general atmosphere left some to be desired. And nothing beats $10 for five hours! Especially not when I’m used to stuff like $8/person/hour!

    Free Drinks?That would so not happen here.They charge you even for tap water :(

    Karaoke means beeing in a crowded pub or soemthing alike with lots of drunk people trying to sing Yellow Submarine or something alike or people that want to show off their skills over here.
    You only get drunks or showoffs theres nothing in between.

    Oh and the Song selection sucks too ^^

    I don’t go to karaoke much but yeah, that’s the most value-for-money place to go to. The best thing about it is the fake shark’s fin soup. *slurps*

    That was what I felt too but nope, it’s not beer. It’s 100% Chinese tea!

    I think it really depends on where. In Singapore, it has evolved to just a room where you and your friends sing your lungs out, minus those drunk people whom you don’t know. That place is pretty decent and there are other decent ones around like Kbox (another company). They only have a reception area and multiple rooms where you and your friends can hang out in those rooms to sing. There are no dancing area or drinking area like those found in pubs or clubs because they merely offer rooms for customers to sing.

    Of course there are those rowdy karaoke places (I call them authentic karaoke sites) where alcoholic drinks, dancers, and drunkards are everywhere. I tend to not visit those because I doubt anyone is interested to sing at those sites. :-)

    $8 per hour is costly and it’s worse if it’s in USD! Perhaps Jess (above) advice might come in handy. It’s freeeeeeeeeeeeee for now! Try searching harder for worthwhile karaoke places, I’m sure that there are cheaper and comfortable places where you can sing your lungs out with your friends. May the force be with you!

    Hey Jess! Sorry for not replying to your email as there was some error with my contact page then and I couldn’t locate your email. Do you still need the list? I’ll privately email it to you if you still need it.

    PS: Are you that jess who has contacted me? If you’re not please ignore this comment, it’s a mistaken identity on my part.

    There’s a wider range of other language songs (Indonesian, Thai, Japanese, Korean, etc). Sadly, their Japanese songs section still have a long way to go as most of the anime & J-pop songs that I know are missing.

    hi,

    what abt chinese songs? are they new?

  16. September 1st, 2009 at 23:45 | #16

    @tina
    Hi tina, the chinese songs found are the more popular ones. There are new ones, as long as the singer has MTV them. The song selection is good so far but I’m unsure how fast they’re updated. You might want to contact the staff directly to ask.

    Cheers!

    @Hui
    Hi Hui, there’s a link in my post that will lead you to the outlet’s site. You can check the outlet’s location on their site. For me, I usually get there by walking from Chinatown MRT station. Hopefully this bit of information helps.
