Hakodate Youjin Buraichou Himegami
My reason for not reading Hakodate Youjin Buraichou Himegami (Himegami for short) in the first place is because of its cover. The character is weirdly dressed and samurai plots are not my type but I was mistaken to think so and was impressed with Himegami’s art and plot after reading a few chapters. As the plot is set in pre-modern Japan, expect some introductory historical lessons and the blending of real life history into this fictional manga.
Due to the plot’s context, representatives of western countries arrived in Japan to set up bases and the political situation in pre-modern Japan is rather chaotic. Hyou, who is an orphaned samurai girl, protects mankind from monsters known as youjin. As the descendant of a great samurai, she masquerades as a male inn helper in the day but takes on the identity of “Miburio” and wields her sword to eliminate youjin at night.
There’s yuri but the yuri is a tease. Hyou one day rescues Himeka and her cute puppy from bullies at the back of the inn and Himeka decides to hang around Hyou for good. Little did Hyou know that Himeka is actually Himegami and I almost screamed “cat woman” when Himegami made her first appearance in her cat woman costume. Hyou then falls for Himeka but hates Himegami because cat woman is always interfering and saving her butt in fights.
The most puzzling scenes are those that involve nudity and I do mean redundant scenes of naked women. I have no idea why they’re included because a naked or clothed woman does not affect the plot but such free fan service do add points to the art because the manga artist draws naked bodies well – naked, half naked, 1/4 naked, etc. Other than naked bodies, a variety of fanciful costumes are worn by characters.

With only 4 volumes, it’s rather short for an action series. I was expecting more action from the representatives of the other countries but it just had to end with the good guys battling the French babes. What happened to the other bad guys? Ran away? Overall its an action packed historical series of good versus evil, coupled with naked women, stylish outfits and tonnes of women with big boobs. Trust me that everything is drawn nicely with style, even half naked bodies. :-)

So does thi even qualify as Yuri Scenes?If shes disguising as a boy and makes out with another girl its basically “normal”,right?Atleast for that catwoman girl since she thinks shes making out with a guy?

It’s still yuri, with the added bonus of it being naughty as well as illicit. I mean, the catwoman girl THINKS she’s making out with a guy, while our heroine is probably having all kinds of naughty guilt tripping over wanting her, while pretending to be a man.
Still boggles the mind, indeed. Should prove to be a fun series if I could get my hands on it and actually read it. Besides, short is good in my eyes. I dislike series having too many episodes with too much powerups.
And how in the world did you came to the conclussion that Himeka (catwoman) “thought” she was making out with a guy? Himeka is fully aware that Hyou is a girl since the beginning. In fact, the story makes it pretty clear that Himeka is a lesbian since the get go….not to mention it is never Hyou’s intention to “pass as a guy”. She just wears the armor, but the setup and “skirt” make it pretty obvious for everyone (people in the story too).
