Reality Hits Otaku Gal

It’s the last semester of school for me as I’ll be graduating after this semester. Commencement is in July and I’m looking forward to it!

Assuming that I do not fail any module and hence have to repeat another semester, I need a job after my last paper that is in mid-May. That’s what I’ve been busy with; job hunting. My school is helping us (those about to graduate students) to get jobs. Mini career fairs and talks from prospective employers are held periodically. I wanted to attend some but reality set in and I had problems.

Firstly, the clothes.

I love tee-shirts, jeans and sports shoes. For interviews or for the various career fairs held in school, I have to be in formal wear to look impressive. The school’s “bouncers” will turn me away at the door if I’m in slippers, tee-shirt, jeans or anything inappropriate.

So yes, I got myself formal wear.

Secondly the make-up, which has a level 99 difficulty level.

Judging from my job scope, I’m heading towards the office work direction in government bodies so it’s rather difficult to avoid make-up. But your “Otaku” friend here is so lazy to even use moisturiser, much less make-up, so she hit a wall in this arena.

Determined, I asked my girlfriends for help and am thankful that they didn’t laugh or turn me away. Some accompanied me to get the stuff; some taught me how to use the stuff while the others gave me pointers now and then.

Make-up

The level 99 stuff (plus a hell load of money spent)

The jump from school to reality is a huge step for me but I’m matching up to the challenges with determination. From resume to cover letters, I had to learn from scratch and piece together what is necessary. I took the initiative and  seek the help of friends((Special thanks to Dav)) and am going to get some professional help. Make-up? I have to start from scratch too and I’m still trying to get it right because I do not want to look like a cow for interviews.

For the remaining of this semester, I’ll try to complete my essays and exams while working on my make-up skills. Any advice is appreciated, feel free to tip me!

    For make-up, check this user over on tubby out: http://www.youtube.com/user/panacea81

    I can feel your pain ;_; I hate make-up, and hate its inevitability. Have you seen Saiunkoku? When Shurei started wearing make-up? Why can’t we humans be worth anything unless we look like movie stars and dress in that certain way?

    It’s /annoying/ :getlost:

    u will get used to dressing up for work. do get a white long sleeve shirt (tight) and a black pencil skirt. young O-eru (OL) looks very nice in them. *blush*

    and not forgetting the mad rush hour dash for the train to work, carry tons of stuffs to and from home to work, laptop, papers etc. all part and parcel of work.

    as for tips on make-up, do post a pic of yourself with make-up so we can judge how good it is. ^^;

    @Anca
    Thanks for the link, it’s very helpful! Oh youtube has so many free make up lessons :wub: (The wonders of youtube)

    I have never seen Saiunkoku before but it’s interesting to know that even anime characters need to make-up. Is she skilled in make-up by the end of the series?

    @soloista
    Thanks! I’ll keep it a secret for now but I’ll update ya if there’s any good news!

    @phossil
    It took me 2 days to put that kit together and they’ll be with me for long. (:

    @gordon the droid hunter
    Just admit that you want my photo gordon, I’ll email my starfish avatar (with twin blades) on request. :silly:

    PS: Why the sudden nick change?

    @The Sojourner

    lol, i’m just kidding about the photo. ^^;

    the starfish sure looks menacing. the twin blades will certainly come in handy in the workplace. though u might need a shield as well to block the arrows. :lol:

    oh the nick change? to be in line with my new identity in the 501st Legion. looking for droids. :cool:

    anyway all the best and good luck in your future endeavors. :tongue:

    Good thing you’re learning how to do make-up. Me I’m hoping someday my laziness goes away and then I’d learn it. In Saiunkoku make-up was likened as war paint lol (if I remember right).

    >>Think on the bright side, there’s surely something to look forward to in the working life.

    The $$$!! You can buy all the manga and DVDs you can afford =p

    Soon enough you can run on high heels while applying make up on the go. And you can survive on 2hours of sleep and 12hours of adrenaline before you hit for your weekly spa and yoga.

    Happy job hunting! Just curious, would you ever consider working in Japan once you pass JLPT 1?

    It’s so comforting to know that there’s another girl who’s never really been interested in make-up and girly clothes. ^^

    @gordon
    Thanks gordon. May you strive in the 501st Legion! lol :p

    @hayase
    That’s so true! With $$$, I can get more manga and spend more on delicious fooood. ~ :wub:

    Don’t procrastinate, start learning make-up soon. Don’t follow my lazy foot steps and suffer from last minute panic attacks.

    @pp
    I’ll drop you a sms when I reach the stage you mention ok!

    PS: Thanks for the help and advice! (:

    @bard
    I’m open to new ideas and if I’m given the chance to work overseas, I will! Enjoy and make the most out of your exchange programme.

    Ack, don’t remind me of make-up and girly clothes, they’re giving me nightmares. :blink:

    …and I see the exact same face powder I use! XD My girly officemates influenced me to be more girly and start learning how to dress up and put on make-up, and it’s good that way.

    Ah that dreaded reality!

    Im lucky that I can wear comfy clothes at my work and dont have to follow certain buisness rules.Theres nothing worse than spending alot of cash on clothes you actually dont want.
    Its especially bad in the case with formal OL wear. Soo much cash you could have spent on other stuff going down the drain for formal wear Meh….

    Haha that make-up story reminds me of those cheesy movies where the overlooked girl suddenly gets an overhaul by her friends and is the hottest thing in town.I dont really like make up on Girls.A little is okay but when i see some girls going all out i just roll my eyes.
    Be sure to let us know when you reach the next Make up Skill Level :devil:

    Ive been thrown into reality abou 1 1/2 years ago and Im still as much child as before.Im glad that im able to keep that naive and playful behavior alot of people start to lose when they decide to behave like an adult from now on.

    Ill cheer you on from across the pond for the JobHunt! Do your best!
