It’s Valentine’s Day! Are you spending the day with your Valentine?

My pet in Pet Society (Facebook application) is in the mood for love. (:

If the answer is no, you’re welcome to join my club. Though without any Valentine, that does not mean we should sulk and be jealous of those lovey-dovey couples around. Instead, I suggest getting into the mood by reading manga, especially those romantic and sweet ones. Being a self proclaimed super manga reader (along with FFVIIKnight), I came across many “love love” series but there are some memorable ones that I would like to recommend.

I like…

romantic series where the male protagonists are legends (rich, handsome, hot body and smart) while the female protagonists have flaws of some kind. Love is where the guy showers gal with lots of care and concern and is always rescuing the gal whenever she’s in trouble. In short, it’s a love story where the guy is what every girl should dream of and everything is too good to be true.

• Kareshi no Kanojo no Jijou

I like…

series where couples have bad first impressions of each other. They start as loggerheads; always competing or trying to out win the other. They then progress to become friends and then finally lovers. What matters most is the humor and ridiculousness that stem from their “quarrels” since we all know that they’re going to end up together.

I like…

series that try to parallel real life for some realism. They are often lengthy series and deals with mundane issues like career, inter-relations between family, studies, etc. The solutions are simple from a bystander perception but what make these series interesting is the reactions of characters.

• Pastel

I like…

drama, action, and the supernatural. The more complicated the plot the better. The messier the situations are the better. Filled with hidden agendas, undisclosed reasons for fighting, love triangles and love tribulations, they are the drama mama series.

• Love Monster
• Shinshi Doumei Cross
• Vampire Knight

I like…

one shots or those that wraps up in a few chapters (one volume). These are the series that are great in their own ways as they prove that length don’t matter for good series.

• You’re My Girlfriend
• Love Graduation
• Stroke Material (note: unsuitable for the young)

I like…

sweets, caramels and chocolates. Just like candies, these are the ones that will make this Valentine sweet.
