Underworld: Rise of the Lycans
Yesterday I caught Underworld: Rise of the Lycans with a buddy of mine and it was awesome. I was a n00b to start with; I have not caught the first 2 movies and know nothing of the “Underworld” series. It was only when we were in the cinema theater that I learn from my buddy that it was a movie on vampires and werewolves. Why didn’t anyone mention vampires earlier? If I knew, I would have caught the previous two!
Putting my vampire-fangirl rants aside; I sat back and enjoyed 90 minutes+ of entertainment.
What I appreciate for the Rise of the Lycans is the “For Dummies” plot where it seems to be made for people like me, who have not caught any of the previous installations before. The plot runs linearly, character’s moves are predictable, and the ending is rather predictable too. In another word, it’s a movie with a cliche plot.
However, what I’m impressed with is the good mix of computer effects and the various battle moves. Unlike some action movies where a look can tell that something is impossible for the character’s autonomy to achieve, characters in the Rise of the Lycans perform impressive combat moves with style. I watched with fascination as human form Lycans transformed into their wolf forms while running and I was kept on the edge of my seat for the various battle scenes.
Much effort is put into the setting and the costumes. I actually find the uniforms (plus helmets) for the vampire soldiers to be pretty awesome looking.
Michael Sheen did a good job in portraying angst Lucian and before I forget, he has a hot bod! (*Ladies take note!*). Previously, his name did not ring a bell for me but after catching the Rise of the Lycans, I would remember “Michael Sheen”. An actor that I would sing praise is Bill Nighy as he has done a convincing job in portraying the evil Victor. Now yours truly finds Victor so hateful that she hopes that the character would disappear soon. Another character that I can’t help noticing is Kevin Grevioux’s Raze. Somehow I hope to see more of that brave and big build Raze in future installments.
In short, I would recommend Underworld: Rise of the Lycans to any who’s looking for an entertaining movie that’s packed with action. It’s only 90 minutes long but it’s worth the penny.
Ive seen the first movie and i didnt really like it.Was way to cliche for me.Didnt like the portrayal of werewolves and vampires aswell ^^
It may be a good way to kill some time with your buddies but i wouldnt spend cash on it.
The only thing that remained in my mind was Kate Beckingsale

I did a check; Kathryn Bailey stars as Selene for the other 2 Underworld movies and I’m planning to catch them soon. I have to take special note of her when I’m watching as she seems to have won you over. :P
For Rise of the Lycans, the female protagonist is starred by Rhona Mitra. Her character, Sonja, was mediocre and didn’t leave much an impression on me. Hence, I left her out. =/

I actually was quite disappointed with this. Underworld without Kate? How is that possible?
Anyway, knowing the plot kind of spoilt the movie for me. Maybe it would have been better if I hadn’t watched the first two installments already….

Well, if you take into consideration that this movie is a prequel to the other two if I have understood everything correct you´ve just watched the first movie :p
Watched the second one and for me it sucked. Watched this third movie and it sucked even more, to much clichés, way to less werewolves and vampire forms and just ordinary people going around killing, loving and just ordinary stuff. BORING!!
Now I need to take some time to watch the first movie to see if it is the best one or even worse than the other two…
