The Things I Do To Bide My Time
I usually spend my time waiting for anime. Be it the 1 episode per week release or the new season, I would wait patiently. There were those bad times when nothing interests me for the season, so I wait and hope for a better new season. But how do I bid my time, especially since it’s the school holidays where all I have is time?
Hang out with friends.
I now have a “board games” gang, “go to Kinokuniya” gang, 2 “sample all the food in Singapore” gang and “study the Japanese language” gang. When you’re with friends and doing things everyone enjoys, time passes quickly. (:
Driving lessons.
Driving is a good way to waste spend time.
Beside the “Practice Training” lessons where I get hands on experience in driving a manual car, I had to attend the many theory lessons and past the evaluations and tests. And did I forget to mention, I waited 3 hours for my Provisional Driving Licence.
When I checked last December, there were no “Practice Training” slots left for the month of December and January. Hence, I visit the site daily and took any slot that the other drivers canceled last minute. I managed to savage 5 slots but I’m at stage 1.08 of driving with many more to go.
As the driving center is 45 mins of travel time away, I spend 1/6 of a day traveling and practicing driving. Driving is definitely a great way to spend time during holidays, it’s also a handy skill! School’s starting next week but I’ll try to complete all my lessons before the semester exams.
Experiment with free online services.
I try the various online free services.
I like the Twitterfox program that Panther has recommended. It’s a handy application where I can post or read twits without needing to load the main site that lags. I was lurking at CalAggie’s site and that’s when I come to know of Ping.fm. It’s a handy service where I can post short updates concurrently on Facebook, Friendster, Plurk and Twitter.
Slide is another of my favorite sites recently as I can upload and present my photos as slides free. I even signed up for Retaggr after surfing blankanvas as it’s a unique way to have an online profile.
Gaming.
Gaming is the #1 way to pass countless hours without realizing. By the time I have completed stage X, hours have passed and it’s time for bed. Worse, I pass my bedtime.
I was told that Conqueronline (a MMORPG that I’ve stopped playing and uninstalled from my laptop 1 year back) was giving out free items by a gaming buddy of mine. I immediately re-download Conqueronline just to claim those in-game items because we all love free gifts don’t we?

Re-install and re-patch the game.

Wow, an inventory full of free gifts!
Borrow library books.
My library of manga is not enough for me. I have to read others.

Library visits became a fortnight thing for me these holidays as I get to borrow and read books that I do not collect free of charge. It’s great money saving method and a good way to spend time. I’m currently reading “Mrs MisMarriage” by Noelle Chua, a local writer. Her take on marriage and living in Singapore is entertaining yet so true. (:
Facebook.
Remember the post that I did on my favorite Facebook applications? I’m a n00b! Why did I fall for some of those applications in the first place? I’m already bored with them after some time but here’s the progress for some of the applications that I’ve mentioned previously.
Fluff Friends

Now (above), my tofu has a nicer home & more company as compared to the past (below).

Battle Stations
Currently level 80, I’m still trying to level. What’s the max level for this game?
I’ve removed the “Mob Wars” application because it was boring and totally forgotten about “Trip Advisor” for the past few months. The gift applications are only used for special occasions now. However, there’s a new game application added to my Facebook family.
Behold!
Pet Society

The living room of my pet’s house.
Pet Society is much more fun than (fluff)friends. I create a pet, groom, feed and take care of its hygiene. Adding, I can also decorate and upgrade my pet’s house. When I’m bored, I can bring my pet to shop or visit my friend’s pet. I was bored so I brought my pet to visit my siblings’ Pet Society just for curiosity sake.

Wow, my sister has nicely decorated her pet’s home.

What! Even my brother has an awesome home for his pet. @_@
So how do you bide your time while waiting for a new episode or the new season to come? (:

What, doing something productive isn’t on your list at all? What has this generation come to? Well, okay. I kind of think sampling all the food in Singapore is productive. u_uV
I don’t really spend time waiting for episodes to come out, honestly. When they’re out, awesome, I’ll watch ‘um. Otherwise, I have work. I always have work. As an freelance commercial art student, honestly, if I’m not working or drawing, I’m seriously wasting time. D; Oh, woe.

I spend most of my time learning Japanese, that includes translating some songs for Deciphered Melody. And sometimes if I feel like it I just doodle and draw stuff on the computer that will never see the light of day.
I used to play games, but since my TV died…I can’t do that anymore… ;_;
I need real life friend…”’orz

Good luck with your driving lessons..! I usually spend the same as you waiting for episodes on a weekly basics… but wasting time is spending some time with things in your life… I work a lot also…and I do a lot of things dealing with the library, so you can see my support for books.

Man I watch anime, blog, sometimes game on Sacred nowadays, and hang out with friends only once in a while. IRC is also addictive lol. And yes, TwitterFox is convenient and easy.
3 hours for PDL rofl, I waited maybe 15 minutes back then for mine.
We should all try and find a MMO we all agree on since so many of us have played or are playing MMO’s. :p

Didnt know you were such a slacker :P
Sampling food sounds like a good idea! I love food!Its a rather expensive way to spend your time tough
Driving lessons are not only a waste of time but money aswell.

Hmmm, those games you play look so awesome!
I used to play Seal Online, got to lvl 56, then quit ‘cos my friends quit. Besides watching anime, reading manga, I also have to practice the piano, I watch movies and shows on tv, go shopping whenever I feel like it … I haven’t been to the library in ages since I buy my books now, plus I have a huge fine at my local library hehe.
I won a PS3 so that eats up some of my time, plus study, plus reading manga and actual books, watching anime, writing books which I practice illustrating… basically I have to study a lot more than I used to. Wish I had a girlfriend to occupy some of my time, it gets ronery. I also collect a lot of anime figures and spend time playing with them a fair bit.

@Kiri
There are a lot of productive things on my list! Studying Japanese is productive; I spend hours a day doing that. Reading is also productive! I read novels and guide books like CSS & Html for Dummies, learning something everyday.
I like your art, keep drawing. (:
@53RG10
Ah get a new tv! It’ll revive your video gaming passion. Better, find a sweet gf, it’s very important.
@animemiz
Thanks! I’ll preserver and get my driving lesson soon.
Yes, I’ve noticed your passion for books and I even visited the links of some of the book sites that you have on another blog. “Shelfari” and “Good Reads” seem like nice sites to keep track of read books but I do not read enough to need those sites. I’m just being curious but what’s the difference between “Shelfari” and “Good Reads”? Which is the better or more convenient to use?
@Panther
The queue for PDL was ridiculous. The queue area was packed with people all staring at the queue number board. I guess 3 counters are not enough to handle the conversion of foreign license and the making of PDL.
Yes to a MMORPG but let’s go for one that’s forever FTP and fun!
@Blowfish
There’s a saying in Singapore that goes like this; “you either waste money on food or shopping”. It’s the holidays, let me spoil myself with what I enjoy doing!
@blissmo
I just checked the main site for Seal Online and noticed that there are many bunnies. Indeed. You’re a huge fan of bunnies bliss. (::
@Asperger’s Anime Blogger
Ah, how I wish that I own a PS3 too! The one that I had was a PS and the other (PS2 & PS3) are too costly for me.
Haha I wish I had some gangs like that. Japanese culture here isn’t really popular. =/
For some things I do while waiting for anime is watch other anime, or start watching some J-drama XP

Gaming does eat up a lot of time. I kind of stopped during college but ever since the Wii, it’s been a huge addiction. T-T
The thing I do the most is work on my coding or try out a new Photoshop technique. Except the Wii is now fighting for time. Hmm….
@Rainie
I recommend English dramas too. Those with many seasons (e.g. Charmed and Buffy) will take up much of your time once you’re into it.
@Caitlin
Yes, it’s too addictive. I have been playing Conqueronline for 4 days straight and my school’s starting next week again. I need to put down that game somehow.
Driving lessons are the bane of my existence! I hate them with a PASSION. *dies*
And Pet Society eats up most of my free time. I thought it was the most retarded thing ever and then my friend got me hooked to it. XDD

Yes, driving lessons are cumbersome. Traveling to and fro from the driving school is a pain.
I only check my Pet Society account twice a week (which explains its horrible and poor condition) as I’m more addictive to Conqueronline than the games on Facebook.
i’m so happy..i like pet society because i have pet society too
and my name pet society is pupu..
