The Things I Hate to See In Anime

There are times when I read a blog, something hit a raw nerve of mine, and then I go berserk.

Like those stupid spoiler comments found in blogs.

Like those stupid images that say a million words; even the endings.

But today, spoilers are not the topic of the day. Instead, I’ll be sharing the few things I hate to see in anime. Whenever I see the below, my irate bar will rocket high.

Series where gorgeous babes all fall for 1 LOSER.

E.g. of such titles: Love Hina, Maken-ki!, Shuffle, etc.

The female characters are all different and unique in their own way but the exception would be where they all will fall for the same guy. There are female characters that are so sweet that they’re sweeter than caramel while the others are so hot that they’ll melt anyone who crosses their path.

However, they only have eyes for one and only him alone. Worse, he’s a loser-like character that is miles away from the term “success”. Often having no clue or being a pure lucky person, the loser survives as his harem take up arms to guide and protect him.

Compassionate but fickle minded characters.

E.g. of such titles: Rosario+Vampire, Vampire Knight, etc.

Because characters do not clearly make their stand, they send out the wrong signals and give false hope to interested parties. They are always in a dilemma state; where they’re torn between hurting or not hurting the other characters emotionally. As characters do not know what they want or do not have the heart to reject the other party, more drama will befall later in those sticky relational situations.

Ambiguous endings.

E.g. of such titles: Tokko, etc.

They start on a good note, progresses with good plot and character development but the ending blew it’s chances of getting a “best anime of the season” award. Series need not have a happy ending for tragic ones can be a great and memorable way to wrap things up.

However, there are those that leave you there hanging. There are loopholes, they contradict the main plot, and the ending seems rushed. It’s like someone has forgotten to write the ending and a fabricated premature end befell the series.

Series with super-duper-special effects.

E.g. of such titles: Lament of the Lamb, Kurozuka, etc

These are the series where the visual effects are a pain in the a** to watch. The cameras shake and they swing 90 degrees, 180 degrees, or anywhere. Some have the “static effect” for flashbacks but it was so badly done that you thought your screen is faulty. There are also those series where machines or characters shoot colorful beams at each other and it was so messy that you had a hard time figuring who shot who, and who got shot.

Characters with powers but do not make a difference.

E.g. of such titles: Amaenaideyo, etc.

These are the characters with awesome abilities but they do not put in the effort to learn or utilize their powers. Often saved by sheer luck, coincidence, or the other supporting characters, these characters remain a loser throughout and is often manipulated by the surrounding. Luck is their highest attribute for they always don’t seem to die and with a slack attitude, the powers just seem to be a waste on them.

Those are what irk me the most in anime and they drive me mad when I see them. What are yours?

I hate this one the most…

The loser is sadly a characterisation / personification of the hopeless but dreamy and horny otaku…

By the way, dont forget “Frequent character power upgrades” and those usual anime cliches “Fight for loved ones and not for hatred”, etc…

    Hey, Love Hina was good!

Anyway, the presence of siscon “onee-chan joke” episodes in Anime is starting to get noticed by me as something unnerving.

I hate to see those Loser and fickle characters aswell but i think this is one of those things where the mangaka hasnt got enough gots to stray from the norm.

The male lead in Harem anime is a loser so that the usual “loser” otaku can identify with him and dream about getting some gorgeous babes himself.

The fickle character is another case where the mangaka is afraid that he might dissatisfy his readers with the wrong choice as love partner and therefore keeps all doors open until the very end.

I generally hate it when the Manga/Anime is dicated by viewerships/buisness and not by the Mangakas free will. When your writing a story you should not care about appealing to the masses as much as possible but writing something you are happy with.

I generally hate pointless Beach Episodes and sudden change in Characters Motivation/Ideals that are justified by stupid reasons. Its not a shounen only thing but often happens in those.

Now lets dig in the Christmas food!

They may be catered to “loser” otaku and try to connect with them, but I find it really hard for any of these characters to be mildly believable. There’s no way a “loser” character with get that many ladies by being “nice” or showing ONE instance of bravery…

We can’t do anything about it, the creators already have their minds set and think this is what the otaku is happy with and will be overused. We can only hope the story is worth the cliche…

Besides these, I have other things I hate about anime, but I’ll save that for my category “My Gripe With Anime”! ^_^

Hmm.. the characteristics that you’ve listed falls under certain characteristics of an otaku’s ideal. Still I don’t like harems and ambiguous endings.. >_<

The thing that annoys me the most are those spineless characters. The moment I saw the rabbit I decided that I wasn’t going to watch Pani Poni Dash anymore.
Of course, concentration on a girl with a big bust, crappy animation, feathering of any kind, and bloodless kills also annoy me.
