Interesting Semester

This semester has been an interesting semester.

To make myself a more “wholesome” person, I have to take modules outside my major and score in them. It was a challenge for some but fortunately the exams are over. Though the semester has ended, I’m happy to point out some of the more interesting stuff that are non-examinable for this semester.

Behold!

  1. The 9th Ming Emperor (Hongzhi Emperor) is the only Emperor in China history to practice monogamy. He only had an empress and did NOT have any concubine.
  2. Dr Yang Bin, who teaches China imperial history, has an award winning book titled “Between Winds and Clouds” published online. Feel free to check it out if you’re interested in Yunan’s various encounters with the outside world.
  3. Emperor Wu of the Former Han dynasty spent 4 years warring Fergana and almost left the country bankrupt. Why war? Because Emperor Wu wanted the “heavenly, blood-sweating horses”1 from Fergana and they refused to sell them to him.
  4. I’m F2. For one of my module’s tutorial, I’m stuck to a seat for one whole semester and that particular seat is designated F2 according to the room layout. Seriously, how rigid can a module get?
  5. Geography tutors blog too, on Geography of course.
  6. The top 5 killers for Singapore in 2005 were Cancer; Heart & Hypertensive Diseases; Pneumonia; Cerebrovascular; and Diabetes Mellitus.
  7. The life expectancy of a Singaporean man is 78.2 years old while that for a Singaporean woman is 80.9 years old.
  8. There is no Forensic Entomologist in Singapore.
  9. To determine whether the body of a badly decayed deceased was high on alcohol, take the maggots, grind them in a mixer, and send the maggots for alcohol testing in the lab.
  10. An individual can have more than 1 DNA profile if he has done a bone marrow transplant before.
  11. In Singapore, even if the child is born out of wedlock the man has to be legally responsible for the child. So guys, note this.
  12. Pedophiles are the nicest people around. Why so? They have to be nice enough to be able to win the trust of the children before they can strike!

Surprising? (:

    I knew about 10. LOL @ 1

SG’s life expectancy is rather too high for my liking.

Also number 12 will give Shin a hard-on for sure.

Think tank for 10: Guy A donates bone marrow to Guy B. Guy B donates blood to Guy C (assuming total blood change). What will the DNA profile for Guy C be?

So sad, the above was my exam question.

#11 = nice. Too bad the US doesn’t adopt anything like that. It would save time and money on paternity tests and encourage people to use a birth control method.
