What Happens When Fantastico De Luxe Fucked Up?
That was what happened to me yesterday night when I was upgrading WordPress from 2.6.3 to 2.6.5.
cPanel Fantastico De Luxe offers a one-click upgrade and that’s exactly what I did, I clicked the button to upgrade. The upgrade was “successful” but WITH errors and my whole site went on and offline just like a roller coaster ride for hours.
Because it’s Fantastico that fucked up, my files in cPanel was messed up and my friendly webhost, Oryon Networks, had to step in to salvage my cPanel, they even helped me to upgrade to the latest version because Fantastico might screw up again.
I lost some stuff as evident from the amount of space that I’m using now. It’s just that I don’t know what I’ve lost.
What’s the point of one-click upgrades when its faulty?
Lol I was wondering what happened to your blog. I always upgrade manually by uploading to the FTP.

I’m really paranoid about “automatic” stuff like that. I do everything via SCP. Not sure what you’ve lost but if your database is messed up, your host probably has some backed up version (hopefully recent) that you can restore from. Sorry to hear about that though!
well it is still not working right. http://hynavian.com/ still gives me Cpanel but specific pages work. thats why i can comment.

I still use the Automatic Upgrade Plugin you told me about back then and its still working fine.I didnt have any Problems when i upgraded to the newest version.
I hope youll be able to bring some order into this mess

I took the lazy bum method and went for the one click upgrade during this exam period.

http://hynavian.com is working for me. Perhaps you can clear your cache and temporary internet files before reloading? Hopefully it works.

Yup my host fixed the database but the last saved version is not the recent. Luckily I have a habit of exporting WordPress and I salvaged the majority of the posts and comments. Database back-ups are important but I just let the auto backup do the job according to its timetable. Now I’m paranoid of “automatic” stuff and I’ll regularly back up the database.

The plug-in is still working? I read that it was not working last time and many complained about it. Hence I didn’t use it. Did you use it to upgrade to version 2.6.5?

Hummm…I think there was an upgrade for the plugin avaiable when wordpress 2.6.4 was released and it worked fine when i upgraded wordpress to 2.6.5 some time ago.

I screwed up the same way back then, but didn’t think of the hosts to help with repairs. Should have asked them.

Thanks for the infor, it seems like I’m down on luck as some plug-ins have stopped working for me (one of them being the automatic upgrade plug-in).
PS: There’s no word press version 2.6.4 due to trapz. Probably upgraded from 2.6.3 to 2.6.5 straight.

Ask your host for help! If they can save your database, why not?
