After Exam Motivators

How’s JLPT everyone?

JLPT was officially my last exam for this year and finally, I’m free. I immediately hit the stalls yesterday to shop and party with my friends and family. Not only so, I even came up with a list of motivators to keep myself occupied this December and for the upcoming year, 2009. My motivators are a mix of material objects and personal goals; they must not be achievable in an instance (eg: being able to buy all the things that I want in a day) and they must not be unrealistic (eg: learn to speak a foreign language professionally in a day). The best motivators are those with time as a limiting factor so that they will a challenge.

  1. To get my driving license by end June 2009.
  2. To get 4 computer mouse mice mouse(s) because they die once every few months. Any reliable brands to recommend?
  3. To pick up some basic photography skills by mid 2009.
  4. To finish reading Tuesdays with Morrie: An Old Man, a Young Man, and Life’s Greatest Lesson within a month.
  5. To get my first headphone by end December. Anything goes as long as it’s affordable.
  6. To get a webcam, preferably one from Logitech by end January 2009.
  7. To travel to either Beijing or Australia for my graduation trip in June.
  8. To swim with wr.
  9. To roller blade without falling once every few minutes by the end of year 2009.
  10. To come up with a blog mascot and possibly banner by end January 2009.
  11. To come up with a blog favicon, icon and name card this December.
  12. To pick up basic CSS and Html from books in the library so that I can twit my blog settings.
  13. To finish Blood Ties this December.
  14. To read and review the many yuri manga that are on my desk.
  15. To clean up my room before Christmas.
  16. To continue studying Japanese so that I can qualify for next year’s JLPT2.

And I have achieved #5 while shopping at Hereen’s HMV yesterday.

Really, Kinokuniya should me their ambassador. The stall is having “A Silver Christmas Special” and members enjoy 20% off. For Christmas featured items, members will enjoy a 25% discount; do check out Kinokuniya’s site for more information. What’s best is that they provide free gift wrapping services too.

What I got from my yesterday’s trip.

It was so crowded in Orchard Road yesterday night that there was “human jam” in certain parts. People were just standing there and unable to navigate around; especially those underground passes like the one from Orchard MRT station that links to Wisma and the passage way that’s at Scotts Road.

I took some snap shots of the lights at Orchard Road yesterday but many were blur and un-presentable. Geez, I need to brush up my photography skills.

    Technically, I’ve been free since mid Novemeber but I have to start my arubaito tomorrow. :sad: As for mice, not sure if you would find use for it, but I bought a gaming mouse (Razer Diamondback), and although I don’t play alot, it seems durable enough to have lasted me for over a year, with accidental drops and all taken into account.

    For gaming mice, I was also about to recommend the same one Shin and I have been using, the Razer Diamondback. The previous one lasted me a few years. Gaming mice are generally more powerful, and Razer is pretty good for a fine price, for the Diamondback anyway. Funan’s 5th floor has it for around 76 when I last went to buy my current, about half a year back I guess.

    Driving license by end June 09 is only possible if your TP test is going to be sometime around less than 1 month after you finish your driving lessons, and only if you pass the first time. It should be no problem if you take a school-based course, but that would of course be more expensive.

    Basic photography is probably easy to pick up in like three months assuming you go out every weekend to do it. Of course, this is theoretically speaking, I still do not have them, but primarily because I have no good camera too. You need to experiment with your own camera and stuff, go out with people who know the stuff, to pick up these skills.

    Blog mascot, favicon and icon can all be done in one day if you sit down for it. CSS/HTML is actually pretty much easily acquired from the web, just Google for specific stuff you are not sure of. For the mascot though, lol. That requires some thinking and inspiration.

    @Shin
    *Notes not to drop the Razor Diamondback mouse*
    Work hard but don’t overwork yourself. :smile:

    @C.I.
    It’ll be fun to know how to roller blade. For JLPT, sign up for Japanese language courses, revise regularly, and you’ll be able to pass JLPT4 next year.

    @gordon
    Oh blood donation…I’ll probably donate blood but I’ll need to find the venue. Is there any upcoming blood donation drive?

    And sure gordon! I’ll definitely let you have my name card when it’s done. May I have one of yours too? :lol:

    @The Sojourner
    You must be ID Sojourner! Don’t remind me of my age! :angry:

    @Disc-Co
    Ah! Another recommendation for Razer Diamondback.
    *Enters Razer Diamondback to the shopping list*

    Thanks for the mouse/mice recommendations! :tongue:

    @Panther
    I’m heading down to Bukit Batok Driving Center now to sign up. Hopefully I’ll be able to complete the lessons and pass on the first try. I tried asking for permission to learn how to ride a motorbike but my parents seem against the idea for safety reasons. Currently I’m designing the blog’s icon and favicon but mascot is a big headache and I got a friend of mine to design it. Hopefully it’ll be done by end January.

    :biggrin:

    Okie, I’m going to get a Razor Diamondback because my mouse keeps dying once every few months and I have tried many brands already. Hopefully Razor Diamondback will last for a year. And thanks for the advice on photography, CSS and Html Panther!

    Sad that so many are against motorcycling, but I am against it myself lol. I just really love and prefer it over driving. In a place like SG, a car is impractical for economical reasons, and a bike is impractical for safety reasons. For best results, use public transport, or walk.

    Now I miss rollerblades, it’s been more than a decade since I used one of those and I wonder if I can still do it lol.

    All the best with JLPT!!! Gonna do my best to pass JLPT1 by next year too, since I most likely failed this year.

    Yay Soshi, let’s work hard for JLPT2 together. Good luck babe!

    jen, now I can stand with my roller blades and walk around in it but I’m nowhere near the stable stage yet. I’ll be revising the Japanese language regularly so that I might stand a chance next year. I heard of the difference in standards from JLPT 3 to 2 so I’m already working on it. Stay optimistic jen, the results are not out yet and you still stand a chance.

  1. No trackbacks yet.
