What’s The Point Of Cashmere Mafia?
Episode 7 of True Blood has confirmed my hunch. Other than hawt sex scenes, there is no plot progress and characters are doing nothing other than having orgasm in every episode. The drama knows no boundary and characters can have sex anywhere, anytime. The one that pushed me to drop the series was the episode where vampire Bill crawled out of the soil and had sex with human Sookie on the sandy grounds of the graveyard. It was O-M-G messy. It was not hot and the act was not sexy, it was just messy.

Putting aside all the traumatizing sex scenes from True Blood, I have to bring up Cashmere Mafia that premiered last Wednesday on Channel 5 at 10pm. What motivated me to catch the series was Lucy Liu because I’ve a preference for Hollywood flicks that have Asians in them.
To sum it all up in a sentence, Cashmere Mafia is about the different lives of 4 rich women. I thought that the series would be much more complicated than what I’m seeing but I guess not. The plot revolves around 4 rich friends who seek each other “expert opinion” when they have a hot issue at hand. I would term their circumstances as “messy” and why so you might ask?
Just in the Pilot episode that was aired last week, we have Juliet Draper (Stars Miranda Otta) who’s trying to compete with her husband in the extra-marital affair arena as she hooks up with other guys just like what he is doing to her. If that’s not messy enough, there’s Zoe Burden (Stars Frances O’Connor) who’s having a private battle with her neighbor as she fights to keep her husband wholly hers. Caitlin Dowd (Stars Bonnie Somerville), on the other hand, is having a sexual orientation crisis as she can’t figure whether she loves girls, guys, or both. Step into publisher Mia Mason (Stars Lucy Liu)’s office politics and you’d get a topsy-turvy world.
Cashmere Mafia is hilarious because characters joke and does silly stuff that would make one grin widely. However, their outfits (especially Mia’s dresses) are outrageous. As I would associate the term “cashmere” with fine products or high class products, perhaps this is part of the reason why characters are dressed soooo outrageously with style. I noted that Mia’s hairstyle changes outrageously to match her various outfits.
I would recommend Cashmere Mafia to those who enjoy HBO’s Sex And The City as I feel that Cashmere Mafia is giving off about the same vibes. I would also recommend this to anyone who is looking for a drama that is silly with lots of ridiculousness on a Wednesday night. If you’re looking for a plot with depth or suspense, this is definitely not the one for you.

I liked Cashmere Mafia but the stupid execs canceled it while Lipstick Jungle is still going. It’s not as amusing or good IMHO. I guess everyone’s still trying to come up with the new Sex and the City.
I heard that they canceled it too but are there enough episodes to make up a season? I wonder why my local TV station play this when they know that its canceled. Grrr…are they trying to play a few episodes and then start on a new series?
I would watch these shows if they had the ladies talk about facebook, coffee, learning a new language, pretending to appreciate classic music, and going vegan.

I heard that they’re going to air the remaining episodes but not make anymore and not renew for a 3rd season. No idea how many episodes they’ve filmed though.
@The Sojourner
I don’t see them doing what you’re expecting anytime soon.
@Caitlin
Thanks for the information. I should be able to catch at least a season on my local TV station before the producers switch to a new series. Lipstick Jungle? I’m gonna give that title a try when my exams are over in December.
Lucy Liu does not look like her in that picture. haha
