Waseda Shibuya Senior High School Festival 2008

This morning I visited Waseda Shibuya Senior High School Festival with my friends. Located at West Coast Road, we took bus 189 and the bus was packed to the brim with many commuters though we all alight unanimously at the same bus stop. XD

Waseda Shibuya Senior High School

The festival is an annual event and this is the 18th year running. The theme for this year is “Run So High” where there are 2 meanings to it. The first being Orchid, which is the national flower of Singapore, and the 2nd where the students aim to stay high in spirits by constantly improving themselves.

Booklet

Before heading anywhere, my friends and I have decided to fill our stomachs with something first. Purchasing a coupon at S$2 each, we made our way to one of the classrooms.

Food!

Mine was the hot cup of tea and the nearest plate, yummy ~<3

Taken from the 2nd level

Look at the crowd! O_o

Taken from the 3rd level

My friends and I later participated in some of the games that were held in the various classrooms. We visited all 3 levels, the 3rd level being the least crowded since most of the games were held on the 2nd level. I feel that the longest queue was for the ghost hospital (something like the ghost house in amusement park) and the queue was soooooo long that I didn’t feel like joining. Hence, I visited the less crowded rooms instead.

Blackboard

There was a classroom selling items at a cheap price. I saw Nana volume 19 (raw) going for S$1, Japanese magazines, 2nd hand items and many other mangas there too. A pity there wasn’t Claymore. XD

Selling at a dollar each

A peek into the calligraphy room!

Calligraphy room

A classroom with students’ book reviews.

Documents room

The dormitories were divided into “male” and “female” but I didn’t take any photos of the dormitory because I felt that it won’t be courteous to do that. Imagine some visitor snooping outside your glass window house and snapping away…baaaaaad. Hence, I took pictures of the many sports facilities instead.

Tennis court

Tennis court and the football field. There’s also an indoor basketball court and a private room for table tennis.

Indoor basketball court

Not forgetting their swimming pool!!! Swimming anyone? ~<3

Swimming pool

Overall I had a memorable experience though it was crowded. Everyone was friendly, helpful and I went home with many mini prizes like sweets and biscuits.

Lilo and me!

Before I left, I posed with the many whales! Lilo to my right, yay! ~<3

    Im always amazed how neat asian schools are.Very nice and everything in one place.I think theres a much higher “we” feeling and loyality among students and their schools with festivals and alike.The Sport facilities are waaaay better than ours.We usually have to use outside facilities for our sportclasses.Thanks for the insight!Just a whale?No dolphin? ^_^

    School festivals? They didn’t exist where I lived… The closest thing would be the massive parent visitation night where worrywart moms/dads would come ask repetitive questions directed at their kid’s teachers. I feel… sad. :sad:

    It’s sad that the Japanese schools in my area don’t organize such events. :sleeping: Just as Panther has mentioned; nice whale. :whistle:

    @Panther
    What is the different meaning? There are many whales (each of different sizes) lined near the canteen.

    @Omisyth
    Ah such festivals require lots of man power and preparation so it might be bothersome for schools to hold one. If I remembered correctly, the school has been preparing for this festival since May I think. :sideways:

    @Soshi
    Draw Claymore ~<3

    @Blowfish
    Ah yup, only whales but there are whales of different sizes ranging from small ones to one big one. The smaller ones are to the extreme left of the picture ~ :wub:

    @pp
    I was there in the morning at around 11am, left before 2pm I think. :pinch:

    @FFVIIKnight
    That sucks. Everything gets complicated and boring when parents are involve. :wassat:

    @Dong
    Yeah indoor basketball court! I think that’s the dream of students of some local schools.

    @Stifler
    Ya, Nana went for $1 each volume and there were many other magazines too. There were also 2nd hand goods like Hello Kitty bags and toys on sale but they were more costly though.

    @The Sojourner
    The high school is affiliated with Waseda University.

    @Shin
    Ya the whales are nice, they even have eye lashes if you look close enough.
