Facebook – My Favorite Applications & Some Interesting Anime Applications

School’s starting tomorrow, hurray! Beside working part-time, self studying and blogging, I’ve been wasting my time in Facebook. Facebook is something like Friendster, Hi5, or Tagged where you can keep in touch with your friends through networking. I’m aware of the various happenings of my friends through email updates from Facebook. When they upload new photographs, I get an email from Facebook, when they update their relationship status, I get an email from Facebook. For the past few months, I was occupied with the many Facebook Applications when I’m online. Applications can take on the form of games, personality tests, groups or self educational programs. Below are some of my favorite applications and some anime applications that I’ve found on Facebook.

Fluff Friends

Fluff Friends is something like Neopets; select an animal of your choice and you take care of it. I chose a toufu as my pet and the mini chicken and kangaroo are my toufu’s friends. I do silly stuff like petting other player’s pets so that I can earn lots of munny (which is the currency name in fluff friends). My hard earned munny will be spent on food and improving the standard of living of my toufu. Fluff Friends is an easy and cute game to play with no strings attached as my toufu won’t starve to death if I don’t feed it and there’s no need for much attention.

Battle Stations

Ascaloth introduced Battle Ships to me while we’re chatting on msn. It’s a turn based RPG where I’m the captain of an airship. I’ll receive a certain amount of Action Points (AP) per hour and I can use them to explore or attack others. This game has lots to do with patience and waiting while the AP comes in. I’ll accumulate a certain amount of Action Points and use them all at one go. Leveling up, purchasing a better ship and upgrading my weapons would be the norm for this game.

Mob Wars

Mob Wars is a dog eat dog world where I start as a hoodlum and climb the ranks to become the top mafia in the neighborhood. It’s a time based game where I accumulate energy points every few minutes so that I can perform dirty jobs like house burglary or train robbery. As I progresses, I can purchase better weapons so that I can do dirtier and more dangerous jobs and invest in properties to get a stable income. This game requires lots of attention at the start since the game does not sleep; the players on the other side of the globe will be leveling and building their empire while I sleep like a log for 8 hours. Though lots of monitoring is required at the start, things will get easier once the basic is established.

Trip Advisor

Trip Advisor is a handy application for me and travelers. Not only are there places of interest recommendations, I can keep track of the places that I’ve visited or am planning to visit by plotting on my virtual world map. Trip Advisor also has “Local Picks”, an application where I can rate any food stalls or restaurants that I’ve visited. It’s useful for a food lover like me as I can keep track of my favorite dining spots and gather opinions on restaurants that I’ve yet to visit.

Growing Gifts & Hatching Eggs

Growing Gifts and Hatching Eggs are 2 useful and fun gift applications. Send a pot of plant or an egg to your friend and it will slowly bloom or hatch into an item that you’ve selected earlier. A friend of mine actually sent me an egg that hatched into a balloon dog and a pot that bloomed into a truffle chocolate after 3 days of receiving them. They’re totally fun and mysterious gifts that will keep your friends guessing.

After sharing the applications that I like, below are some interesting anime related applications that I’ve found on Facebook. I did a search with Facebook’s application search and thought that they might interest anime fans who are Facebook users.

Riuva

Not really an application but more of a group found in Facebook, Riuva has its own small community in Facebook too. It’s something like a Yahoo group where members can view, share pictures, exchange videos or interact with one another. You’ll meet other anime fans there and yes, Riuva writers with Facebook accounts are in the group.

100 Anime Gifts

Anime Maids

Both 100 Anime Gifts and Anime Maids are gift applications where Facebook users can send their fellow Otaku a gift. Instead of plants and eggs, why not send your Otaku friend an anime maid or an anime related gift instead for his/her birthday? The more you send, the more you’ll unlock and my 8th sense tells me that those rare and more awesome looking gifts are usually found in the higher levels.

What Kind of Female Anime Stereotype Are You?

I chance upon an anime personality test and I took it for fun. Behold the result below! :whistle:

There are many others anime personality test too but I’m just too lazy to try them out. Ending, anyone with Facebook wants to be my Fluff Friend?

    I never really liked all those social sites. I just have an account there which i rarely log on to, and when I do, it’s just to accept friend requests. I don’t even bother updating my profile now, since I don’t really see any point in doing so.

    I was at my university orientation and all the ‘ang mohs’ were asking for facebook requests. I still cannot fathom the hype behind it.

    I have a Facebook account but I don’t use the apps enthusiastically.  Most of it’s just to keep in touch with friends.  The only app I like is the map one so I can keep track of places I’ve been. ^^;

    Sure enough, another social networking program will take over Facebook in time to come. However, Facebook is many times better than Friendster (based on experience). Its much more advanced, easier to handle and has many applications. Its actually very useful to me since my friends are all now around the globe and its the more convenient way to be in touch with them.

    I think its for gaming sake. There are lots of game application in Facebook and I’m always receiving requests from others who are on the other end of the world.

    @Caitlin
    I really love Trip Advisor and I like to dream in advance before plotting where to go in the future. As for applications, try Fluff Friends, I had fun rearing toufu. :w00t:

    I have a myspace to keep up with bands, but that’s the extent of my social networking. Well apart from  an account on a place called italki which is social networking, but where you can meet others from other cultures (get pen pals and the like to practice language!). I usually leave profiles to rot though…I should probably get a facebook too, but to me it’s pretty pointless. I’ll get one when I go to university in a couple of years : )

    @C.I.
    Think I found you on Facebook, hopefully I got the right person. :lol:

    @Saya
    Facebook might not be the hottest application in a few years time but its a good application if you have friends who are IT-savy and overseas. They’ll at least keep you notified with whatever they’re doing even though they’re at the other side of the globe. For now, I’m pretty occupied with Fluff Friends, my toufu! :wub:

    I got a Facebook a long time ago…but like other people, I don’t really use it. Since I got it…I’ve have 0 friends…”’orz The other social networking site I use, but don’t update often, is MySpace…but that’s mostly because of a group I belong to! ^_^’

    Lol, I’m planning on creating a facebook account since I’m tired of Friendster (even though I’ve got hundreds of friends…) because it has been too overpopulated by my fellow country folks (from Philippines)… I mean, I wanna meet more people overseas ^_^

    @53RG10
    Ah I’ve other accounts on other social networking sites too but I never bothered to log in at all. No use signing up for a social networking site that you won’t update. XD

    @kanzeon
    I don’t think Facebook is a good way to meet more friends since the chat interface isn’t that developed. If you’re looking for more “no chat” gaming buddies, Facebook would be a good option. I’ve made some Fluff Friend buddies though we have never chatted even once before.

    Sure, add me as Facebook friend. You can sink my and Ascaloth’s ships in Battle Stations. I’ll help you to damage Ascaloth’s ship before you deal him the sinking blow okay. :sideways:

    Ahh.. I have facebook… and of these apps mentioned, I use Fluff Friends, Trip Advisor and Growing Gifts… they do get kinda boring once in a while, but I like to use the photos, events, and networking. (Shrug) I do have a lot of ppl I kno on facebook.

    Ya Facebook is handy because I’ve friends and relatives who are overseas and its hard to really chat with them over the phone weekly or monthly. They’ll at least update their profiles or do one liner comments to show that they’re well, handy appliance. :cheerful:
