Kinokuniya Privilege Card 4th Anniversary – My Shopping Trip ~♥

Members enjoy 20% off store wide from the 2nd till 9th August 2008. I took advantage of the 20% discount and shopped for manga at the main store. Actually, I’ve been waiting for the member discount period; have been working part time and saving my penny so that I can buy many at once.

Kinokuniya 4th Anniversary

  • Variante Volume 4
  • Dance in the Vampire Bund Volume 1
  • Claymore Volume 12

ROAR!!! Claymore!!! I collect every volume of Claymore so it’s no surprise that I get the latest volume. Volume 4 of Variante just arrived and I’ve been waiting for the last volume for months, I’m dying to know what happened to Aiko at the end. As for Dance in the Vampire Bund, I thought that the description is interesting and since I’m a sucker for vampire series, I bought it.

Confidential Assasination Troop

Actually C.A.T was out of stock and I’ve placed special orders for both volumes some time back. Coincidentally, the staff notified me of the arrival and I get to purchase them during the 20% discount period, lucky me! :lol:

Yuri series

  • Tetragrammaton Labyrinth Volume 2
  • First Love Sisters Volume 1
  • Strawberry Panic Volume 2 (Novel)

I collect yuri titles too. First Love Sisters and Tetragrammation Labyrinth are random titles that I’ve decided to pick off the shelves while browsing. I was looking for the manga version of Strawberry Panic but Kinokuniya did not have any in stock so I settled for the novel. The novel is much smaller than the average sized manga and it has pages with colored illustrations at the start. I read a chapter and decided that I prefer the manga version instead. Too many words, I’m not a fan of words only.

Notice that I did not purchase any titles from Tokyopop this time round? Yes, I deliberately stayed away from that horrible publisher. I collect manga but they must be of collect-able quality. Sadly, Tokyopop failed my standards and I will only go for their titles if I’m desperate1.

I’ve thought for some time but what should I do to manga that I do not want to collect? I have a few manga that I’ve read or tried reading and I do not want to keep them. I’ve thought about it, dumping them into the bin seem to be a waste of money but selling them 2nd hand seems not plausible since Mandarin series are rather cheap to begin with2. I can donate them but do charity organizations want and do they appreciate manga?

    I would and should have gotten a Kino membership card, if I had known the amount of money I had spent back then.

    Trips to my local Kino now pretty much suck, since they’re now hiding them BL manga from plain view. :pinch:

    @double
    Black Lagoon? No fair! I searched for it on that day but I couldn’t find it. My shopping expenditure hit a hundred dollars though. :pinch:

    @C.I.
    Seriously Lunar Legend Tsukihime by DrMaster Publications is one of the worse quality stuff around; toppling Tokyopop as the worse publisher around. The paper feels like toilet paper material to me; you wouldn’t want any water to touch it. Also, the price varies; try comparing the price of volume 1 vs price of volume 2 when you’re there. :shocked:

    @FFVIIKnight
    The Kinokuniya here doesn’t have it in stock and they won’t import it, need to check with them about this. I’ll need to wait for some time if I place a special order. :wassat:

    @The Sojourner
    Manga collectors should own and update their Kinokuniya membership card annually. Since I’m not into online shopping, I rather get my stuff through Kinokuniya instead; its less hassle and the condition of my mangas are guaranteed.

    @Shin
    There are a few of them around and you have to look very hard for them. Try performing a search using their book system before you head down to grab them. It’ll give you a rough idea as to whether they’ve in stock and whether they’re hiding those BI books.

    @kanzeon
    Yup, its Rhapsody in Heaven. I got it from my local publisher for approximately S$5+

    @Dong
    We’ll need to keep an eye out for any other public holidays. Kinokuniya has the habit of arranging special member discount for the festive season. I’m sure there’ll be one in December for Christmas. But it’ll be a 3 months wait though. :whistle:

    THATS A LOT OF BOOKS.On a sidenote, I splurged a bit on some books BEFORE the 20% discount and was really annoyed. No manga though, just history books. However, I did manage to buy one volume of Mirai Nikki during the 20% period. Hooray!

    Ah, Strawberry Panic. I liked the anime version of it, and was tempted to get the novel at the manga shop at Sunshine Plaza the other day. If you don’t want it, I would be willing to buy it off you. :DAlso, spotted Gunslinger Girl hiding among your photos. lol

    @C.I.: They have Tsukihime artbooks in stork? Last I checked, I couldn’t find any. Of course, I have not been to Kino since the start of this year…

    @Sasaki
    We could’ve gone together and spurge at Kinokuniya, next time okay? :lol:

    @Stifler
    The light novel for Strawberry Panic (SP) is rather boring, maybe because of the many words but as I’m a fan of Strawberry Panic, I’ll be keeping the novel. I’m thinking of placing an order for the other SP products with Kinokuniya. The manga and the first light novel is not in stock and Kino needs some pushing at times.

    Also, those many mandarin manga (GSG included), I’m going to either give or throw them away as I don’t intend to collect them (except for C.A.T). :sad:

    How I wish they have that 20% discount for the Kinokuniyas here in Tokyo too  ! :p
