Shoujo Sect ~Innocent Lovers~ 1st Period

**********Warning**********

Shoujo Sect ~Innocent Lovers~ is an OVA hentai animation spun from an eromanga titled Shoujo Sect 「少女セクト」. This review contains spoilers because there’s an episodic review and contains images from the anime. It is unsuitable for minors or the sensitive and contains images and content that might cause discomfort to some (though I’ve tried my best to refrain from posting those too disturbing images for this review).

Frankly, I’ve spent much time and effort on this review. I welcome comments but I reserve the right to delete discriminatory comments okay, please be nice to everyone. (: Special thanks to A Day Without Me for giving me the idea to blog on it because I spotted her reviewing some interesting series on her blog. If she can review it, I can too! Also, special thanks to Sok for all her help. Thanks buddy!

**********Warning**********

Yuribou recommended Shoujo Sect some time back and I decided to give it a try. Set in an all girl’s school, Shoujo Sect has plenty of girls in it but all of them are brought together by a plot that revolves around the two leads, Handa Shinobu and Naitou Momoko. Though the ultimate focus is on the development of the duo’s relationship, it does not dive into their relationship from the start. Instead, an arsenal of girls is introduced and their many situations will indirectly link back to either Handa Shinobu or Momoko at the end of things. It’s like piecing together the many smaller pieces to get the big picture to their relationship.

Lengthy Episode Guideshow

What I noticed while watching is that the anime has famous classic and instrumental pieces like Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata, Piano Sonata No.8 “Pathetique” 2nd Movement and Romance de Armor. Hurray to a n00b like me who’s able to identify some of the classics, should I be thanking my guitar teacher for this? The appropriate music kicks in to either intensify or to lighten the mood. For example, Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata is played in the background when the sisters did incest, intensifying the whole dark and depressing mood. However, Shoujo Sect has a rather soothing ED though it’s just some music accompanied by someone humming.

Characters are not as simple as they think. I first thought that Handa would be the typical playgirl where she’ll flirt with all and cheat on them at the end of everything. However, she’s terribly honest towards her girls as she’s unable to even tell a white lie to Kirin. Though she’s an old hand, she can also be helpless in the love arena as she’s helpless when faced with Momoko. I think, if the many H scenes are removed, Shoujo Sect could pretty much stand on it’s own as a yuri or shoujo-ai series. That’s pretty much my personal opinion though. (:

Anime Handa looks cuter than the manga version where she has that aura of cool-ness and a mix of mischievousness. On the other hand, Momoko looks fiercer in the anime as compared to the manga. The hair and eye colors do matter in the anime as that’s the message I get after watching. Pay more attention to the purple or colored heads; pay more attention to the uncommon blue or green eyed characters as they are the key players. If you see a group of girls (all brown haired) standing together, that will point out to me that they are merely extra characters that need little notice.

Manga Handa looks cooler than anime Handa.

Currently, Otenba is scanlating volume 1 of Shoujo Sect and SHIN-gx Fansubs has expressed their interest in fan subbing this series. The latest news is that they’ve picked it up and is still working on it. Shoujo Sect ~Innocent Lovers~ 1st Period is a toned down version of the eromanga as the manga is 3x or more explicit in my opinion. I went “omg what are they doing!!!!!!” while reading the manga and my eye brows twitch so badly that my face cramped when the characters inserted unnatural objects into their dykes.

    I still remember how the store staff in Akiba wouldn’t allow me to purchase the manga when I asked him about it last year. LOL. And it wasn’t for me. It was bjorn’s request.

    Awesome effort here Hynavian. 1 for you for intro-ing me to another interesting little series.So it is a tale of reunion eh? Hm, sounds like a good thing to pick up.Also, Moonlight Sonata you say? I remember hearing that piece as a child, and I loved it.

    They won’t let you purchase it? There goes my dream of flying to Akiba to grab this series after my graduation next year. :(

    @C.I.
    Yup it’s something like a tale of reunion and ignoring all the H things that they’re doing, the plot wraps up sweetly. I first heard Moonlight Sonata when I was in the cinema catching a movie titled “Elephant”. It affected me a lot and I came to associate the melody with pessimism since Elephant is a movie on a high school shoot out and one of the shooter’s favorite piano piece was Moonlight Sonata. However, the melody itself is classy indeed.

    @FFVIIKnight
    Candy Boy is definitely waaaaay sweeter and romantic than Shoujo Sect. The girls in Shoujo Sect are more interested in doing each other in than speaking romantically.

    Wow that actually sounds like a henati i could like.Most ive seen so far contain of a pretty pathetic plot and somehow nearly always included rape in a way or another or other weird stuff.Im not a fan of either.What speaks for this series is that it could work without the h-scenes.Ill blame you if its crap! ^^

    You can purchase it if you’re above 18. I was only 16 back then >_>

    While lacking in the H department, it certainly sure is more intriguing than your usual H ova. I’m just keeping my fingers crossed for subs. *looks at yesy*

    @Blowfish
    They could have replaced the H scenes with poetic words and romantic actions and it would rival Candy Boy! ~<3

    @double
    Thanks for the information double. (: There was once when my friends tried to purchase Japanese version hps but the stalls won’t let foreigners purchase them, I’m unsure why but I hope such things don’t happen in the manga arena.

    @Shin
    SHIN! SHOUJO SECT is love, romace with H H H H H H. My review is the super toned down version of it’s H-ness. Handa goes threesome and uses sex toy on her babes in the anime.

    Otenba is still scanlating, but if you want to finish reading the manga before watching the 3rd ep, you can go to Dynasty Scans. they’ve got the remaining complete.

    I’m interested to see how they’ll do the last episode, and what they’ll cut out.

    I have already finished reading and watching Shoujo Sect. It’s my +1 advantage for knowing Japanese. :lol:

    The last episode wrapped up the anime nicely though they left out many side stories/scenes that are from the manga. It falls below my expectations but I can understand since there’s the time constrain per episode. :pinch:

    PS: The subs for ep3 are already out, check out killer-maid.net
