The Hour of the Mice – What is Reality?

What is reality?

What if the reality you’re living in is a constructed reality?

Protagonist Maki Tanako learn from Kiriko Hinatsu, a mysterious transfer student that he has been living a lie all along. Not only him, everyone in the school for prodigies have been living a lie. They are merely research subjects and the school that they’re so familiar is is actually a research faculty.

Protagonist Maki (guy) and Kiriko (female).

Is it true? But everyone has been in this school since young. Everyone is well fed, clothed and everyone is tackling subjects that kids of their age won’t be able to cope. “What exactly lies on the other side of the mountains?” would be the question some would ponder but none bothered to investigate; everyone is just concerned with their current lives. For those who tried  escaping, they just miraculously disappear without a trace with nobody remembering them.

So what did Maki do? He gathers his most trusted friends, Ryo, Natsume and Mei, and let them in on what he knows. But when he confronts Kiriko after not seeing her for some time, she doesn’t seem to remember anything, not even him. So what exactly is happening?

So what will the group of friends do? Follow Maki, Kiriko, Ryo, Natsume and Mei in a battle of wits where they team up and try to grasp what reality is. Will they be able to escape or will they be the next victim?

The gang gathers to analyze their situation.

If you’re into mind battles and mysteries, you should not miss this series. Being raised in a faculty since young, what the prodigies know is a world taught to them by the faculty. It’s difficult to oppose what they’re so familiar and comfortable with but yet they try. With their prodigal wits, they raise questions, piece together missing pieces and try to secretly come up with a plan.

Secret meeting late at night.

I am reminded of one of the Animatrix’s shorts, wherein which a group of children discover a “hole” in reality that is actually a bug in the Matrix itself. lol.

Doesn’t really sound that interesting. Sounds like a cross between the Matrix and a plot from an episode of Kim Possible. Yeah, I watch a show about a teenage crime-fighting super-heroine. And it ROCKS.

Awww… I was gonna blog on this today but it looks like you beat me to the punch T_T. Great manga that’s full of suspense but I wasn’t able to find updates for it in the past couple months. Would love to see the ending, especially after Kiriko regains her memories.

Hey, this actually sounds pretty good and the pictures aren’t so bad either! Unfortunately, I can’t relate it to any anime or manga I’ve seen lols.

    @C.I.
I don’t think its anywhere similar to the Matrix where there’s a virtual world and everyone does fancy moves in mid air. XD

Kim Possible? I have to check it out. *click click*

Maybe the scanlation team took a break. Luckily this series is only 4 volumes long and my last resort would be getting the raws from Kinokuniya if there’ no news from the scanlation team for long. (:

A series came into mind. Try Dark Angel, starring Jessica Alba, if you’re looking for one that is quite similar to The Hour of the Mice. Kids are trained from young; they have super intelligence, heightened reflexes and a group of them broke out from the faculty that reared them.

There’s the mandarin version for it? Is it by Tong Li?
That’s good news for readers who are able to handle chines since I thought that there’s only the raws and the scanlated version so far. The series is complete but the scanlation team hasn’t release a chapter for some time already. :(

The one i have is by SPP. Hmm places like Comic Connections should have it. I normally go to a small comic shop located near NUS, west coast area, around the former ginza plaza.
